This position is located in FEMA Region 5. The Emergency Management Specialist (Response) monitors warnings, alerts, and notifications through a variety of communication systems; gathers and distributes incident information to support a National Common Operating Picture; and analyzes developing incidents to assess impacts and recommend appropriate actions. The position provides and maintains regional situational awareness for classified and unclassified all-hazard incidents, including producing regional reports for leadership and partners and preparing daily reports as required by regional senior leadership. FEMA employees have regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities. Employees may be recalled at any time for emergency operations, which can involve irregular hours, work outside the official duty station, and duties beyond the position description. Emergency assignments may require extensive travel with little advance notice, extended stays at emergency sites, and work in physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. The employee must be able to deploy to locations across the United States and its territories for extended periods. If selected, the employee must attend a three-week, in-person training course in Emmitsburg, Maryland, within six months of onboarding; FEMA will cover travel expenses. The position requires a Top Secret background investigation and may be subject to random drug testing if designated as a Testing Designated Position. A one-year probationary period may apply to new Federal competitive service employees.
