About The Position

Ideal candidate excels in coordinating radiological emergency exercises, analyzing preparedness plans, engaging stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in radiological emergency response and recovery operations. At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Promotion Potential : Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Selective Service registration required.
  • Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.
  • Must be able to deploy with little or no advance notice to anywhere in the United States and its territories for an extended period of time.
  • For GS-11 level: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Assisting in coordinating emergency exercises or drills at designated sites; and Tracking corrective actions and monitoring preparedness improvements; and Communicating with partners to facilitate information sharing during preparedness activities.
  • For GS-12 level: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Participating in emergency preparedness exercises and drills, including planning and evaluation; and Reviewing and analyzing site-specific emergency preparedness plans, identifying gaps and recommending improvements; and Managing the tracking and implementation of corrective actions from exercises and incidents to drive continuous improvement; and Participating in stakeholder meetings, briefings, and interagency coordination efforts related to emergency preparedness.

Responsibilities

  • Write and review response regulations and guidance documents and interpreting the laws, regulations and policies applicable to FEMA.
  • Organizing and facilitating drills and exercises to test and improve radiological emergency response capabilities at designated sites.
  • Evaluating site-specific radiological emergency plans and procedures for compliance with federal guidelines and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborating with Federal, State, local, tribal, and private sector partners to ensure effective communication and coordination during radiological incidents.
  • Offering guidance and support to site personnel and stakeholders on radiological emergency preparedness, response protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring and following up on corrective actions identified during exercises or real-world events to ensure continuous improvement in site preparedness.
