About The Position

In this role, you will apply strong Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) expertise to develop and maintain the technical foundation of emergency planning at Pantex. You will conduct Emergency Planning Hazards Surveys and Assessments using Department of Energy (DOE) required methodologies, evaluate changes in facilities and operations for their impact on potential emergency conditions, and integrate hazardous material inventories into defensible consequence analyses. You will perform qualitative and quantitative modeling—including air dispersion modeling—to characterize potential releases and define protective action distances. You will also prepare and revise technical planning documents such as Emergency Action Levels, hazard screening tables, and Emergency Planning Zone inputs, ensuring that all products meet DOE emergency management expectations. Your work will require translating complex physical, chemical, and radiological hazards into clear, actionable guidance for the Emergency Response Organization, while presenting technical findings to leadership and cross‑disciplinary teams with clarity and precision. The primary duty for this position is the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the Company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • OR applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 12 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.
  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 709.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (e.g., Environmental Science, Meteorology, Health Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics)
  • Experience in emergency operations or emergency management, including familiarity with DOE O 151.1 concepts.
  • Background in incident response or support of Incident Command System (ICS)/Emergency Response Organization (ERO) activities (e.g., drills, exercises, protective action coordination).
  • Progress toward or possession of recognized emergency management credentials (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Texas Emergency Manager certification (TEM)).
  • Experience in dispersion modeling, toxicology, health physics, industrial hygiene, or meteorology.
  • Understanding of Emergency Planning Right to Know (EPCRA)/Tier II requirements and hazardous materials screening processes.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills for diverse audiences.
