About The Position

An Emergency Dispatcher dispatches police units by two-way radio and computer. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. Work is performed at a dispatch console with multiple computerized systems including Radio, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and the BPD Network, for accessing MVA/NCIC information. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

• Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
• Four years of experience in public contact work.
• Ability to use radio communication equipment effectively.
• Ability to type.
• Ability to respond to emergencies quickly.
• Ability to speak distinctly.
• Ability to work calmly in stressful situations.
• Ability to multi-task.
