About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Emergency Department Technician assists emergency department nursing and medical staff with patient care and clerical duties. The role performs patient care activities necessary to care for patients in the emergency department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of patient care experience in a health care delivery setting.
• Certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT), paramedic, medical assistant (MA), or certified nursing assistant (CNA).
• BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

• ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect patient care, assisting nursing and physician staff with patient care procedures.
• Inventories and restocks emergency department equipment.
• Collects and transports specimens, including urine, blood, and cultures.
• Assists with patient admission and discharge; initiates and discontinues intravenous lines; and cleans and prepares examination rooms between patients.
• Places patients on monitors, provides wound care, and assists with orthopedic and other emergency room procedures as requested.
