About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician provides patient care in an environment attentive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, in accordance with Mount Carmel’s mission, guiding behaviors, standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. The role is based in the Emergency Department at Mount Carmel East and is scheduled for three 12-hour shifts per week, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of approved coursework that includes basic patient care skills, EKG, and phlebotomy.
• BLS certification is required.
• Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous patient care experience and/or technical education in a health-related field.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient needs in a timely manner.
• Transport and escort patients.
• Perform visual acuity tests, eye irrigations, and equipment setups.
• Perform phlebotomy and obtain laboratory specimens as ordered.
• Follow protocols and participate as a team member in trauma, stroke, heart, and sepsis alerts, and resuscitations.
• Perform wound care and use sterile technique when appropriate.
• Remove sutures and staples, excluding those in the facial region.
• Provide Foley care and collect specimens.
• Perform EKGs.
• Collect and document patient data, including vital signs, weight, and procedures performed.
• Report observations and changes in patient condition to an RN and/or physician in a timely manner, including changes in vital signs and symptoms.
