Caterpillar Inc. seeks Embedded SW Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Work on the core information software team developing Caterpillar telematics, displays, and network managers for Caterpillar machines & engines. Develop operating systems, core software, applications, and data transfer frameworks that Caterpillar displays & connectivity product lines using for years to come. Design, develop, configure, and test the high-quality, secure software as a member of small team. Focus on iterative development and fast delivery of features utilizing up-to-date technologies and practices like Agile, C and C++, embedded Linux, and a plethora of open-source software. Design new software components for displays and connectivity control modules. Maintain and extend existing software. Perform code reviews for software development team. Review results of software unit and regression tests. Mentor less experienced developers. Collaborate with developers, architects, testers, and systems application engineers. Provide Core Information software subject matter expertise to internal and external teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field plus 6 years of software development experience using C++ and/or C programming languages or related occupation. Alternatively, master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or a related field plus 5 years of software development experience using C++ and/or C programming languages or related occupation.
  • Embedded software development, design, and architecture
  • Linux software development
  • GIT configuration management tool
  • Reading electrical schematics
  • Scripting using Python
  • RTOS development (i.e. Free RTOS)
  • Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth low energy
  • CAN, J1939, and other data link protocols
  • Design Patterns and Object-Oriented programming
  • Developing Unit Tests and Test-Driven Development
  • Debugging tools for embedded systems such as Lauterbach, GDB, or Wireshark

Responsibilities
