About The Position

The ELL Teacher is a member of the district’s ELL department and plays a critical role in improving achievement for English language learner students. The teacher builds other teachers’ capacity and understanding of research-based instructional practices for ELLs and all students, and helps ensure high-quality classroom instruction through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and formative feedback to collaborative teams. The role calls for passion for education and leadership. The position is in the Learning Services department, is classified as Certified - Exempt, and involves working 8 hours a day. It reports to the Coordinator of ELL. Compensation follows the Certified Salary Schedule.

Requirements

Kansas teaching license with an English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement.
At least 3 years of teaching experience in an ELL position.
Experience as a classroom teacher.
Strong background in instruction and instructional leadership.
Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators day to day.
Knowledge of best practices for teaching ELLs.
Knowledge of ESOL standards and other content standards.
Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Highly collaborative team player.
Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up to achieve desired results.

Required clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint, Background Clearance, and TB Test.

Responsibilities

Coach and support teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for ELLs.
Collaborate with building and district administrators.
Plan, model, and co-teach effective lessons with teachers.
Visit classrooms and PLCs regularly to collaborate with teachers and provide feedback that improves instructional planning, delivery, and assessment, including ongoing monitoring and support for student achievement.
Assist in developing and delivering professional development for classroom teachers and ELL aides.
Meet regularly with the district ELL instructional coach regarding students and instruction.
Participate in professional development, including workshops, lectures, and institutes related to language acquisition, literacy development, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.
Keep abreast of federal and state Title III guidelines.
Assist with ELL program presentations, professional development sessions, student placement screenings, state assessments, and trainings as needed.
Assist the ELL instructional coach with projects or programming related to the ELL program.
Assist with selecting instructional materials, resources, and equipment for the ELL program.
Assist schools with PLCs and the MTSS process.
