About The Position

Milton Academy seeks per-diem substitute teachers for middle school classes in Grades 6–8. Substitute coverage may be needed for planned absences and late-notification situations; whenever possible, substitutes will receive advance notice so they can prepare. The substitute follows the primary teacher’s lesson plans and works with Middle School faculty to support effective classroom management and supervise students during classes and other daily activities, including lunch and recess. The position receives supervision from the Middle School Principal or their designee.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least three years of experience teaching, tutoring, or working with children in any capacity, such as camp counselor, childcare provider, or teacher’s aide.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Computer expertise, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
• Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.
• Receptiveness to supervision and professional development.
• Desire to be part of a dynamic educational community.
• Ability to work at a computer for up to eight hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.
• Ability to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in an independent boarding or day school.

Responsibilities
