Elementary School Teaching Fellow (Kindergarten - 4th Grade)

The Equity Project Charter School•New York, NY
•$90,000 - $100,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School is hiring Teaching Fellows for Kindergarten through 4th Grade. Fellows work in a classroom alongside an expert teacher while developing their own teaching skills and working toward growth as Master Teachers. Depending on grade and instructional period, Fellows serve as lead teachers or co-teach with a Master Teacher. They teach across subjects, build relationships that support student progress and development, and lead small-group literacy and math learning. The role is part of TEP’s Academics, Arts, and Athletics program, which emphasizes classroom cultures that foster a love of learning. Kindergarten and 1st Grade Fellows help students develop foundational reading, writing, and math skills, as well as emotional and social skills. Fellows in Grades 2–4 teach in a learning environment designed to encourage students’ love of learning. The school is located in Washington Heights, with a campus setting that also provides opportunities for students’ physical activity. TEP’s mission is to advance educational equity for students from traditionally underserved communities through excellent teaching and by supporting teachers’ growth as pedagogical experts, intellectual seekers, and community leaders. Teachers are not required to hold New York State teacher certification when hired, but applicants without certification must identify and present a pathway to obtain it. TEP follows the educational requirements of the individual pathways to New York State certification and does not require additional degree programs. Applicants must submit an up-to-date resume, a cover letter describing their interest in joining TEP, and one teaching-and-learning submission: a portfolio showing the progress of at least two students, assessment data for an entire class, or an original curricular tool they developed. Each option must include a written narrative as described in the application requirements.

Requirements

  • Be deeply aligned with TEP’s mission of providing a world-class education to historically under-resourced student communities.
  • Classroom experience is expected in practice; teaching experience is not technically required, though TEP Fellows usually have at least two years of lead teaching experience in grades K–4 in a public charter, traditional public, or private school.
  • Ability to tailor curriculum and teaching methods to each student’s needs and learning style.
  • Outstanding verbal ability and strong communication skills.
  • Applicants without New York State teaching certification must identify and present a pathway to obtain certification in their application.
  • Submit an up-to-date resume, a well-written cover letter, and one of the specified teaching-and-learning submissions with its required written narrative.
