About The Position

Hemlock Public School District is seeking a passionate, student-centered Licensed School Counselor or School Social Worker to join K.C. Ling Elementary School. This role focuses on supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and personal challenges, while building strong partnerships with families and staff. The ideal candidate will help students navigate difficulties, foster a sense of belonging, remove barriers to learning, provide early intervention, strengthen family connections, and promote a positive school climate.

Requirements

Valid Michigan School Counselor License/Certification or Michigan School Social Worker Approval
Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and student support systems
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners

Nice To Haves

Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred

Responsibilities

Provide individual and small-group counseling services that promote students' social-emotional well-being, self-awareness, resilience, and academic success.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where all students feel valued, respected, and connected to their school community.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies to identify and address factors that may impact student success, attendance, behavior, and overall well-being.
Identify students in need of additional social-emotional, behavioral, or mental health supports and help develop effective intervention plans and resources.
Build trusting relationships with families and serve as a bridge between home, school, and community resources to support student growth and success.
Actively participate in MTSS, 504, Child Study, and other student support processes while helping implement strategies that promote positive outcomes for all learners.
Support schoolwide initiatives focused on student wellness, character development, attendance, conflict resolution, and social-emotional learning.
