About The Position

Hemlock Public School District is seeking a passionate, student-centered Licensed School Counselor or School Social Worker to join K.C. Ling Elementary School. This role focuses on supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and personal challenges, while building strong partnerships with families and staff. The ideal candidate will help students navigate difficulties, foster a sense of belonging, remove barriers to learning, provide early intervention, strengthen family connections, and promote a positive school climate.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan School Counselor License/Certification or Michigan School Social Worker Approval
  • Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and student support systems
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling services that promote students' social-emotional well-being, self-awareness, resilience, and academic success.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where all students feel valued, respected, and connected to their school community.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies to identify and address factors that may impact student success, attendance, behavior, and overall well-being.
  • Identify students in need of additional social-emotional, behavioral, or mental health supports and help develop effective intervention plans and resources.
  • Build trusting relationships with families and serve as a bridge between home, school, and community resources to support student growth and success.
  • Actively participate in MTSS, 504, Child Study, and other student support processes while helping implement strategies that promote positive outcomes for all learners.
  • Support schoolwide initiatives focused on student wellness, character development, attendance, conflict resolution, and social-emotional learning.
