About The Position

Chevron’s Shale & Tight Business is accepting online applications for the position of Electronic Instrumentation Specialist (EIS) Apprentice located in Midland/Odessa, TX, Orla, TX, Pecos, TX, Carlsbad, NM, or Hobbs, NM, through March 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM (Central Standard Time). The EIS Apprenticeship is designed to build technical skills in the electrical and instrumentation discipline and gain experience in field operations. As part of the program, apprentices will work with a range of equipment and systems such as overhead power lines, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), transmitters, and communication systems, and more, providing valuable exposure to real-world applications in the industry. Through a combination of structured training and immersive on-the-job learning, Apprentices are introduced to the complexity and criticality of work management, maintenance execution, and equipment servicing/repair. The position provides direct exposure to the Chevron Way Values and the strong safety culture that defines the Shale & Tight Business. Apprentices will work closely with a dedicated mentor, complete two assignments across different operational areas to develop a broad understanding of how teams and functions work together to safely deliver production and minimize downtime, and will also participate in computer-based and classroom training. This is a temporary 6‑month field-based position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Ability and willingness to work day and night shift work, weekends, and holidays based on the assigned work schedule.
  • Live within 50 miles of the work location
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven record in Safety and Reliability
  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following: complete an Applied Associates of Science degree (such as Instrumentation and Control (PLC), Computer Information Systems, Automation, Electrical, Electronics or related field) OR have equivalent education or military training OR finish a certificate program degree (such as Instrumentation and Control (PLC), Computer Information Systems, Automation, Electrical, Electronics or related field) with previous oil & gas or similar industry experience.
  • Additionally , a minimum GPA of 2.5 in core classes is required, and transcripts must be uploaded to the applicant’s online profile.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with reliability, safety, and/or environmental process-related issues.
  • Previous experience with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation
  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and an aptitude for learning new software applications.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers.
