About The Position

GE Healthcare’s Bone and Metabolic Health business is seeking a skilled Electro-Mechanical Lab Engineer to build, repair, modify, and maintain X-ray machines and laboratory equipment as well as perform verification testing. The role involves hands-on technical work to ensure equipment reliability, performance, and compliance with safety and quality standards in a dynamic lab environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in electro-mechanical systems, and thrives in a collaborative setting to support cutting-edge healthcare technology.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering Technology, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in assembling, troubleshooting, or repairing electro-mechanical systems, preferably in medical imaging or laboratory equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, mechanical assemblies, and control systems.
  • Proficiency soldering/replacing PCB components
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) and hand tools for precision assembly and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and equipment software interfaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a lab environment with occasional standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GE Healthcare equipment or similar medical imaging systems.
  • Familiarity with X-ray systems, radiation safety, or medical device regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, calibrate, and test X-ray machines (bone densitometers) and related lab equipment according to technical specifications and engineering designs.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical issues in X-ray systems and laboratory instruments to minimize downtime.
  • Modify and upgrade existing equipment to meet new performance requirements or incorporate technological advancements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO).
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to prototype, test, and validate new designs or modifications.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables to support lab operations.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including radiation safety, electrical safety, and workplace hazard guidelines.
  • Support lab operations by setting up equipment for experiments, demonstrations, or customer evaluations.
  • Perform verification test activities.
