About The Position

The Electrician Specialist Foreman is assigned to Unit 720 in District 07 of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and oversees the Bridge Maintenance Electrical Crew. The position reports directly to the Bridge Maintenance Transportation Operations Manager. The incumbent oversees electrical maintenance and repairs on movable and stationary bridges, ferry vessels, buildings, generators, rest areas, pumping stations, and other DOTD assets as assigned. The role calls for a self-motivated employee able to work with minimal supervision and respond to unforeseen conditions.

The foreman supervises bridge electrician specialists troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems on seven movable bridges, three ferry vessels, buildings, generators, rest areas, and other District 07 assets. Duties also include inspecting assets to determine repair needs, estimating repair costs, requisitioning materials, maintaining project cost and time records, training and guiding subordinates, assigning work and approving completed work, approving leave requests, and recording labor, equipment, and materials on daily work orders using the appropriate control sections or asset numbers.

Requirements

• Four years of experience or training in the electrical trade, including two years working with specialized systems such as high-voltage distribution lines, power plants, heavy high-voltage mechanical or industrial equipment, or electrical or electronic systems such as traffic signals.
• Two years of the required experience must be on-the-job experience.
• A Class D Chauffeur’s License may be required at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Bridge Maintenance Electrical Crew and electrical maintenance and repairs on bridges, ferry vessels, buildings, generators, rest areas, pumping stations, and other assigned DOTD assets.
• Supervise the daily activities of bridge electrician specialists troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems across District 07 assets.
• Inspect assets to determine repair needs and estimate repair costs.
• Requisition materials.
• Update and file cost and time records for projects.
• Provide training and guidance to subordinates.
• Assign work to subordinates and approve work products.
• Approve leave requests.
• Account for labor, equipment, and materials on daily work orders, charging the appropriate control sections or asset numbers for expense distribution.
