About The Position

The Electrician Apprentice is responsible for installation and repair of automated industrial control equipment. This role involves installing and maintaining industrial control equipment and instrumentation such as loop controllers, variable frequency drives, solid state reduced voltage starters, level controls, ethernet motor control centers, belt scales, and control panels. The position requires a thorough understanding of electrical systems, including the installation and repair of electric motors and equipment (120, 240 and 480V). The apprentice will also be responsible for completing preventive maintenance tasks, documenting work, and potentially driving a maintenance vehicle to pick up parts. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 Year experience as Electrician - Apprentice
  • Four years combined schooling and industrial experience required
  • Strong machine electrical background
  • I/O knowledge (hardwired/discrete, digital/ethernet, and analog) and the ability to read electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and machine shop equipment, the proper use of all electrical test equipment used to perform electrical/electronic repairs of production equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
  • Ability to read prints including mechanical and electrical prints
  • Possess excellent analytical skills, data interpretation
  • Knowledge of safety practices such as MSHA, lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E and proper use of PPE
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, stoop, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching
  • Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, carry up to 150 feet
  • Ability to tolerate working at heights up to 150 feet
  • Vision: normal depth perception, vision and ability to distinguish color

  • Associates degree preferred
  • Computer skills - Windows environment, loading and setup of various software platforms desired

Responsibilities

  • Installation and repair of automated industrial control equipment
  • Install and maintain industrial control equipment and instrumentation such as loop controller, variable frequency drives, solid state reduced voltage starters, level controls, ethernet motor controls centers, belt scales, and control panels
  • Install and repair electric motors and equipment (120, 240 and 480V)
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled and document finished work
  • May drive a pick-up truck or maintenance vehicle in the plant and/or to pick up parts from local vendors
