About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking an Electrical Technician to install electrical equipment in accordance with applicable standards. This role involves mounting equipment, routing cables, and completing electrical connections. The technician will perform commissioning and testing functions for electrical equipment, including cold insulation checks, megger checks, physical inspection, initial light off, and testing, as well as final operational testing. Typical equipment tested includes motors and controllers, generators, switchboards, power panels and load centers, machinery centralized control systems (MCCS), PLC’s, tank level indicators, motor operated valves, public address systems, fire detection systems, sound powered and dial telephone systems, galley equipment, HVAC controls, and machinery controllers. This position may also involve other related tasks that become essential to the role.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in trouble shooting and repairing electrical equipment
  • Skill to perform layout and electrical equipment installations
  • Knowledge of electrical theory
  • Knowledge of marine wiring practices
  • Ability to read cable and wire color codes to place wires with precision and hook-up required
  • Must be able to read blueprints, schematic diagrams
  • Must be able to use electrical test equipment and hand and power tools
  • Must have ability to work at heights, in confined spaces
  • Must be available to work any shift
  • Must comprehend written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to hear warning signals
  • Must be able to read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings
  • Frequent lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Pulling, standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment
  • Reaching above shoulder or out in front
  • Manual dexterity
  • Pushing, kneeling, bending, stooping, handling and fingering
  • Must have color vision and good eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships
  • Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazard commonly present in employee’s work area

  • May be required to attend safety, quality and/or process improvement meetings
