About The Position

GE Vernova is a global energy company focused on electrifying and decarbonizing the world. The Onshore Wind business, part of GE Vernova, is responsible for the design, construction, and servicing of a vast wind turbine fleet. The Fleet Performance Management (FPM) team is crucial for monitoring the health and performance of thousands of turbines, utilizing data and diagnostics to proactively identify and address issues, enhance reliability, and maximize customer asset value. FPM operates at the intersection of engineering, data analysis, and field operations, collaborating with various engineering and services teams to translate fleet data into actionable insights. The Electrical Monitoring Engineer role is an entry-level position centered on analyzing and diagnosing electrical components and systems within the onshore wind turbine fleet. This position is well-suited for recent graduates with a background in electrical engineering who are also proficient with data and coding, acquired through academic work, projects, internships, or personal endeavors. The role involves learning to interpret electrical system data, detect performance anomalies, and contribute to the overall monitoring strategy that ensures fleet reliability, while simultaneously developing expertise in electrical systems and enhancing data analysis and programming skills.

  • Strong foundational knowledge of electrical systems and engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site in Greenville, SC.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to programming or data analysis through coursework, internships, co-ops, personal projects, clubs, competitions, or a minor/secondary area of study (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, or similar).
  • Comfort with, or eagerness to learn, programming and scripting languages such as Python, SQL, or MATLAB.
  • Interest in and comfort with using AI-assisted tools to support coding, data analysis, and technical problem-solving.
  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in the wind, power generation, or renewable energy industry.
  • Experience working with real-world datasets, including cleaning, analyzing, or visualizing data.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, sensor data, or industrial/operational data environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments, including group projects, capstones, or extracurricular technical clubs.
  • Genuine interest in renewable energy and a career combining electrical engineering with data-driven problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze operational data, SCADA signals, alarms, and events under the guidance of senior engineers to identify abnormal electrical performance, component degradation, and system anomalies across the fleet.
  • Support the diagnostic assessment of electrical faults, power quality issues, and intermittent failures to aid in troubleshooting and root cause investigations.
  • Learn to differentiate between actionable electrical signals and noise or expected operational variations, and interpret field performance data and service records to evaluate component health.
  • Contribute to fleet diagnostics and maintenance prioritization through electrical performance analysis.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing enhancement of electrical monitoring strategies, condition indicators, and detection logic for the installed fleet.
  • Collaborate with Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Services, Fleet Reliability, and Root Cause Analysis teams to resolve issues and inform engineering improvements.
  • Work with SCADA data, event logs, alarms, and service records, and develop/improve scripts, queries, and dashboards to support electrical monitoring, thereby enhancing programming and data analysis skills.
  • Adhere to established standards for diagnostic quality and documentation, and effectively communicate technical findings to team members and stakeholders.
  • Become proficient in using AI-assisted tools to expedite coding, data analysis, and problem-solving, and remain open to learning new programming languages and tools as required.
