About The Position

Eurofins EAG Laboratories is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead hands-on investigations of electronic components, packages, and systems. The role owns electrical failure analysis from problem definition through root cause determination and client recommendations, translating complex data into clear, actionable conclusions. This is a full-time, onsite laboratory position in Sunnyvale, California, with typical Monday–Friday daytime hours. Flexibility is required to support urgent analyses, extended hours, or occasional weekend work based on laboratory demand. The engineer performs failure analysis on semiconductor devices and electronic components, designs analytical plans, uses and interprets laboratory tools and test results, and contributes to fault isolation and deprocessing workflows. The position also reviews and approves laboratory data and technical reports, communicates findings to internal teams and clients, improves laboratory processes, and collaborates with staff to manage workflow, quality, and priorities. The position supports work subject to U.S. export control regulations. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual (asylee or refugee).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on failure analysis experience in a semiconductor or electronics environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple failure-analysis techniques and tools, such as electrical characterization (curve trace, parametric analysis, oscilloscope); fault isolation (OBIRCH, emission microscopy, or thermal techniques); deprocessing and sample preparation (RIE, FIB/PFIB, lapping, or etching); and physical analysis (SEM/EDS, cross-sectioning, X-ray, or C-SAM).
  • Working knowledge of device physics, IC layout, and semiconductor processes.
  • Experience reviewing and writing technical reports for internal or customer use.
  • Ability to work onsite in a laboratory daily and handle multiple active analyses.
  • Ability to coordinate with team members to manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must meet ITAR U.S. Person status: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual (asylee or refugee).
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or laboratory equipment for extended periods (4+ hours).
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and laboratory equipment, use a telephone, and access file cabinets and items stored at various levels, including overhead.
  • Must be able to remain stationary 80% of the time.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably in person, by telephone, and in group settings.
  • Ability to handle small, fragile devices with tweezers and/or fingers and have close-distance visual acuity, with or without correction.
  • Willingness and ability to wear required PPE, such as a respirator, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, laboratory coat, and other required devices or equipment.
  • Ability to move equipment or items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to learn tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in workflow contexts.

  • Experience supporting external customers or participating in client-facing technical discussions.
  • Exposure to LabView, GDS layout tools, or similar systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on failure analysis on semiconductor devices and electronic components, including ICs, subcomponents, and systems.
  • Design and execute analytical plans to determine the root cause of electrical and mechanical failures.
  • Use and interpret results from X-ray, SEM/EDS, failure-analysis isolation techniques, and electrical characterization tools.
  • Analyze ATE datalogs, schematics, and test results to diagnose issues.
  • Lead or contribute to fault isolation and deprocessing workflows.
  • Review, validate, and approve laboratory data and technical reports.
  • Communicate findings to internal teams and external clients in clear, practical terms.
