About The Position

Eurofins EAG Laboratories is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead hands-on investigations of electronic components, packages, and systems. The role owns electrical failure analysis from problem definition through root-cause determination and client recommendations, using lab tools independently and translating complex data into clear, actionable conclusions. The position is fully onsite in Sunnyvale, California, in a laboratory environment. Work includes operating lab equipment, handling chemicals and materials, and following safety protocols. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with flexibility required for urgent analyses, extended hours, or occasional weekend work based on lab demand and customer commitments. Applicants must meet U.S. Person status under ITAR: U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card), or Protected Individual (asylee or refugee).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on failure-analysis experience in a semiconductor or electronics environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple failure-analysis techniques and tools, including electrical characterization such as curve trace, parametric analysis, or oscilloscope use; fault isolation such as OBIRCH, emission microscopy, or thermal techniques; deprocessing and sample preparation such as RIE, FIB/PFIB, lapping, or etching; and physical analysis such as SEM/EDS, cross-sectioning, X-ray, or C-SAM.
  • Working knowledge of device physics, IC layout, and semiconductor processes.
  • Experience reviewing and writing technical reports for internal or customer use.
  • Ability to work onsite in a laboratory environment daily and handle multiple active analyses.
  • Must meet U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR: U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card), or Protected Individual (asylee or refugee).
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods (4+ hours), operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, and use a telephone.
  • Ability to access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead, and remain stationary for 80% of the time.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by telephone, and in group settings.
  • Ability to handle small, fragile devices with tweezers and/or fingers and have close-distance visual acuity, with or without correction.
  • Willingness and ability to wear required PPE, including respirator, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, laboratory coat, and other required equipment.
  • Ability to move equipment or items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in workflow contexts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with advanced semiconductor nodes, such as FinFET, or complex packaging.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as JEDEC, IPC, MIL-STD, or AEC.
  • Experience supporting external customers or participating in client-facing technical discussions.
  • Exposure to LabView, GDS layout tools, or similar systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on failure analysis on semiconductor devices and electronic components, including ICs, subcomponents, and systems.
  • Design and execute analytical plans to determine the root cause of electrical or mechanical failures.
  • Use and interpret results from X-ray, SEM/EDS, failure-analysis isolation techniques, and electrical characterization tools.
  • Analyze ATE datalogs, schematics, and test results to diagnose issues.
  • Lead or contribute to fault-isolation and deprocessing workflows.
  • Review, validate, and approve laboratory data and technical reports.
  • Communicate findings clearly and practically to internal teams and external clients.
  • Identify process improvements to increase laboratory throughput and reduce repeat failures.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to manage workflow, quality, and priorities.
  • Manage multiple active analyses and coordinate with team members to meet deadlines.
