Electrical Engineering Intern
About The Position
The Electrical Engineering Intern will use AutoCAD and SolidWorks drafting software to assist the ITG engineering department in designing and developing infrastructure layouts and diagrams from initial concept through final design. The intern will work closely with ITG’s on-site draftsman to develop and review basic mechanical designs, provide equipment schematic drawings for manufacturing, support implementation of designs, and communicate design issues. The position also maintains current inventories of drawings and specifications for individual components and assembly drawings.
Requirements
- Must currently be pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in drafting, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
- Proficient computer skills, including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Understanding of automation equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings.
Nice To Haves
- Entering second year of an associate’s program or junior/senior year of a degree program.
- 1–2 years of previous experience working in a formal engineering department completing drafting-related assignments.
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
Responsibilities
- Use CAD software to turn P&IDs or hand sketches into ready-to-build product drawings.
- Create to-scale drawings of newly designed equipment using computer-aided drafting equipment, technical handbooks, tables, and other tools.
- Interpret and ensure conformance with applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Confer with engineering staff and other personnel to resolve problems.
- Draft working drawings and instructions for installation crews.
- Measure factors affecting installation and equipment arrangement, such as distances to be spanned by wire and cable.
- Assemble documentation packages and produce drawing sets for review by an engineer or architect.
- Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.
- Explain drawings to production or construction teams and make adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain inventories of drawings and specifications for components and assembly drawings.
- Complete related team tasks and other special projects and job tasks as assigned.
