About The Position

The Electrical Engineer performs electrical engineering and design for mission-critical facilities and data centers, including new construction, expansions, and upgrades to operating facilities. The role focuses on designing reliable electrical infrastructure, coordinating multidisciplinary work, and supporting projects from initial planning through construction administration. The position reports to a Group Leader and takes project direction from the Project Manager and Engineer of Record. The engineer works with minimal supervision, coordinates designers and technical staff, and helps maintain client relationships. The engineer may lead the electrical scope on assigned projects and be responsible for technical quality, schedule, and budget performance. Using prescribed methods, the engineer performs specific and daily engineering assignments, applies standard practices and techniques, gathers and adjusts data, and follows related operations in accordance with industry standards and techniques. The role also supports project planning, scheduling, fee development, client engagement, and construction-phase activities.

  • 5–7+ years of electrical engineering experience in building systems or power distribution, including experience on mission-critical or data center projects.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Experience with SKM, EasyPower, or ETAP software.
  • Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier standards and their application to data center design.
  • Experience designing lighting, power, grounding, lightning protection, signal, communication, controls, and fire detection systems.
  • Experience performing design calculations and preparing equipment or material specifications.
  • Experience with all phases of project management and production.
  • Experience in budgeting, scheduling, and planning facility design projects.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and design codes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with peers, managers, and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and in a fast-track environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional registration as a licensed Electrical Engineer preferred.
  • ATD or ATP Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical designs and construction documents for mission-critical facilities and data centers, including power distribution, lighting, grounding and bonding, lightning protection, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Design and specify medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, switchgear, switchboards, transformers, generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, busway, and power distribution units.
  • Evaluate electrical system configurations and redundancy strategies, including N, N+1, and 2N arrangements, based on project requirements.
  • Prepare single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, panel schedules, specifications, and electrical details.
  • Perform electrical calculations, including load analysis, equipment sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
  • Coordinate electrical requirements for mechanical cooling equipment, building controls, EPMS, fire alarm, and other facility systems.
  • Support capacity planning, equipment replacement, and phased construction in operating facilities while accounting for uptime requirements and shutdown constraints.
  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, civil, telecommunications, and other project disciplines, as well as utilities, equipment vendors, and commissioning providers.
  • Review equipment submittals, respond to requests for information, conduct site observations, and support resolution of construction issues.
  • Apply applicable codes and standards, including the NEC, relevant NFPA requirements, energy codes, and project-specific owner standards.
