About The Position

As an Electrical Engineer, you are responsible for designing, modifying, and troubleshooting electrical or electronic engineering assemblies, layouts, schematics, and drawings to advance the equipment that supports our technology. Using your technical experience and critical thinking skills, you will perform engineering analysis, generate test reports, develop innovative solutions, and create documentation for product releases. You will also coordinate the procurement and assembly of components, identify sources of critical parts, and resolve technical issues to ensure peak performance. Our team of product development engineers focuses on new product development, but we don’t just design it and run away. We typically take the development from cradle to grave (systems architecture, systems engineering, design, documentation, build, test, & release). We work on a variety of projects within Applied Materials and with a variety of groups (ion implant, CVD, automation, common systems, etc.). We are looking for someone with a broad experience base who is willing to tackle difficult problems, learn new technologies and methods, and leverage existing technologies and methods We are looking for someone with expertise in electrical engineering, software, and motion controls. We do a variety of product development efforts so a broad range of skills and a willingness to learn new skills is important to be successful in this job.

Requirements

  • Expertise in electrical engineering, software, and motion controls.
  • Broad range of skills and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • General power (AC & DC) and signal distribution design.
  • Cabling design, schematic creation, sensor selection / integration.
  • Basic knowledge of EMI / EMC mitigation designs.
  • Semi and safety requirements for electrical designs.
  • Motor and encoder sizing and selection.
  • Motor/drive tuning.
  • Design of real time controls algorithms.
  • Create mathematical models of mechanical (or general) systems for the control model.
  • Develop higher level code to tie everything together (for test stands mostly…not for production level code…that is handled by a dedicated software group).
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in control system techniques, modelling, and simulation.
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in controls / software related tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.).
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in more general programming languages (C, C++, etc.).
  • Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in controls hardware / systems (Delta Tau is frequently used, our own internal controls system (CGMA & CGA) is another frequently used system.
  • Passion for hands on development (we don’t just sit at our CAD stations, we turn wrenches, build test stands, test out our designs/code/controls, etc.).
  • Is a lifetime learner and enjoys learning and developing things they may not have a lot of previous experience with.
