Electrical Engineer (Analog) or Electrical Engineer II

Custom Manufacturing and Engineering•Pinellas Park, FL
•$70,000 - $82,000

About The Position

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering (CME) is hiring an Electrical Engineer (Analog), with the opportunity to fill the role at the Electrical Engineer I or Electrical Engineer II level depending on the selected candidate’s education, experience, technical capabilities, and ability to perform the responsibilities. This is a hands-on engineering position designing, developing, testing, and supporting electronic hardware for aerospace, defense, space, industrial, and energy applications in the Tampa Bay area. The engineer will work across the hardware lifecycle, from circuit design, simulation, and prototyping through lab testing, troubleshooting, verification, manufacturing, and production. The EE I level is intended for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who will develop practical design skills with guidance from experienced engineers. The EE II level calls for greater independence, ownership of more complex technical assignments, engineering decision-making, and resolution of difficult hardware problems. CME is a small business with engineering, manufacturing, testing, and production capabilities within one organization. The company describes its culture as emphasizing problem-solving, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer service. The schedule includes a four-day workweek most weeks. The position may require access to export-controlled goods, technology, or technical data, so applicants must meet applicable U.S. Person requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • For EE I: 0–2 years of relevant electrical engineering experience. The Education and Experience section specifies zero to two years for EE I.
  • For EE II: typically 2–5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience; the Education and Experience section specifies four or more years for EE II.
  • Hands-on exposure to analog circuit design, including areas such as op amps, filters, power supplies, sensing, and signal conditioning.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools such as OrCAD, SPICE, LTspice, or comparable platforms.
  • Comfort working with common electronics laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and function generators.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and other technical functions.
  • For EE I, ability and willingness to learn from experienced engineers while progressively taking ownership of engineering assignments.
  • For EE II, demonstrated professional experience designing, analyzing, testing, and troubleshooting analog or mixed-signal circuits.
  • For EE II, ability to translate system or product requirements into practical circuit-level designs; evaluate component tradeoffs; independently investigate technical problems; develop clear documentation; manage multiple assignments; and drive work from concept through completion.
  • Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Person requirements if access to export-controlled goods, technology, or technical data is required.

Nice To Haves

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Academic, internship, co-op, research, military technical, senior design, or project experience involving analog electronics, for EE I candidates.
  • Practical projects such as robotics, electronics, maker projects, research, or other hands-on engineering work, for EE I candidates.
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, military, space, power electronics, embedded hardware, or ruggedized electronic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog and mixed-signal circuits for power, sensing, signal conditioning, control, and mission-critical systems.
  • Develop and evaluate circuits involving op amps, filters, power supplies, converters, sensors, and control circuitry.
  • Perform schematic capture and support PCB design and development.
  • Use SPICE, LTspice, OrCAD, or similar tools to simulate, analyze, validate, and refine designs.
  • Build, prototype, test, and troubleshoot electronic hardware in the lab.
  • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, and other test equipment to characterize circuit performance.
  • Analyze test results, identify root causes, and implement design improvements.
  • Select electronic components based on electrical requirements, performance, availability, reliability, and application needs.
  • Work with suppliers and technical vendors to identify components and engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, and test personnel throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop schematics, specifications, test procedures, technical reports, and other engineering documentation.
  • Support designs from concept and prototype through verification, manufacturing, and production.
  • Participate in design reviews and communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Support additional engineering activities as part of CME’s collaborative, hands-on engineering team.
  • At the EE I level, develop the ability to independently design, analyze, test, and document electronic hardware with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • At the EE II level, own more complex technical assignments, make and defend engineering decisions, troubleshoot difficult hardware problems, and help move designs through development and production.

Benefits

  • A schedule that includes a four-day workweek most weeks.
  • Opportunities to gain experience across design, simulation, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, manufacturing, and production.
  • Opportunities to work directly with experienced engineers and cross-functional technical teams and take on increasing technical responsibility.
