About The Position

Kent is looking for experienced Electrical Commissioning Technicians for a project in Ingleside, Texas to support the safe testing, energization, start-up, and turnover of electrical systems for an energy project in Ingleside, Texas. The role performs field inspections and commissioning activities on low- and medium-voltage equipment, working closely with Construction, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Typically 5 or more years of industrial electrical experience, including commissioning, start-up, testing, or maintenance in LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, power, or similar facilities.
Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, UPS/battery systems, grounding, and electrical protection.
Ability to read single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment data sheets, and vendor manuals.
Practical experience with electrical test instruments.
Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, LOTO, energized work controls, and electrical safe-work practices.
Must be able to satisfy site access, background screening, drug and alcohol testing, and fit-for-duty requirements.
Able to work outdoors, climb stairs and ladders, enter controlled areas, lift and carry tools, and work days, nights, weekends, or rotating shifts as the project requires.
Communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.
Prepare accurate shift reports, test records, punch-list updates, and turnover documentation.
Coordinate effectively with Construction, Operations, Engineering, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.
Demonstrates a strong safety mindset and the courage to stop work when conditions are unsafe.
Works collaboratively in a multi-discipline, fast-paced commissioning environment.
Takes ownership of assigned systems, follows through on commitments, and escalates issues promptly.
Applies a methodical approach to troubleshooting and verifies work before equipment is released.
Adapts to changing priorities, system boundaries, schedules, and shift requirements.
Maintains high standards of quality, housekeeping, and care of tools and test equipment.

Nice To Haves

Electrical trade school, apprenticeship, associate degree, or equivalent technical training preferred.
Journeyman Electrician license or recognized electrical trade qualification preferred; required where dictated by the work scope or applicable regulation.
Familiarity with relay-test sets and power-quality equipment is an advantage.
Current OSHA 10/30, NCCER, TWIC, first aid/CPR, or other site credentials preferred or must be obtained as required by the project.

Responsibilities

Execute electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, specifications, permits, and system priorities.
Perform walkdowns and verify installation completeness for switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, motors, generators, UPS systems, batteries, grounding systems, lighting, heat tracing, and associated cabling.
Complete inspection and test records, check sheets, redlines, punch lists, and turnover packages accurately and on time.
Support insulation-resistance, continuity, phase-rotation, winding-resistance, grounding, battery, cable, and functional testing using properly calibrated equipment.
Assist with protective relay, breaker, interlock, control-circuit, and emergency-power testing under the direction of authorized personnel.
Prepare equipment and systems for energization; verify boundaries, permits, isolations, LOTO, clearances, and readiness before work begins.
Participate in energization, motor solo runs, equipment start-up, load testing, and integrated system testing as assigned.
Troubleshoot electrical faults, control-power issues, wiring discrepancies, and equipment defects; document findings and support corrective action.
Coordinate with mechanical and instrumentation teams during loop checks, package testing, and start-up of motors and electrically driven equipment.
Verify vendor requirements and support vendor representatives during testing and commissioning of packaged equipment.
Identify, classify, and clear punch items while maintaining system configuration and turnover status.
Maintain test equipment, tools, temporary power arrangements, and commissioning work areas in safe, serviceable condition.
Support shift handovers, daily planning, progress reporting, and system handover to Operations.
Perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management, within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role.
