About The Position

The Town of Penetanguishene is a picturesque bilingual community with a population of approximately 10,000, located on the southerly tip of beautiful Georgian Bay. The Municipal Election Information Officer is responsible for providing front-line customer service and information to electors at the voting location during the Municipal and School Board Election. Reporting to the Returning Officer or designate, the Information Officer serves as the first point of contact for voters, helping to create a positive, accessible, and efficient voting experience while supporting the orderly operation of the voting location. The position assists electors by providing general election information, directing voters through the voting process, confirming they are at the correct voting location, managing voter flow, and responding to routine inquiries regarding voting procedures. The Information Officer promotes accessibility and customer service by identifying voter needs and directing electors to the appropriate election official for assistance, voter revisions, or ballot issuance. The role contributes to maintaining an organized, welcoming, and impartial voting environment while supporting compliance with the Municipal Elections Act, election procedures, and accessibility standards.

Requirements

High School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent
Previous customer service experience dealing with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Experience providing information, directions, or assistance in a public-facing environment.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse range of electors.
Ability to understand and follow detailed election procedures, instructions, and directions provided by the Returning Officer or designate.
Ability to remain professional, courteous, patient, and impartial when dealing with electors and responding to inquiries.
Good judgment and problem-solving skills to address routine voter inquiries and refer complex matters appropriately.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when interacting with electors and election staff.
Basic computer skills sufficient to access election information and assist with election operations, as required.

Responsibilities

Welcome electors to the voting location and serve as the first point of contact, providing courteous, professional, and impartial customer service.
Provide general information regarding voting procedures, voting locations, voting hours, and election processes in accordance with established election procedures.
Direct electors to the appropriate election official for voter revision services, ballot issuance, accessibility assistance, or other election-related matters.
Assist in managing voter flow and line-ups to support the efficient and orderly operation of the voting location.
Verify that electors are at the correct voting location and provide guidance on where to obtain assistance if they require additional election services.
Identify electors who may require accessibility accommodations and facilitate access to appropriate supports, equipment, or election officials.
Respond to routine voter inquiries and refer complex questions, complaints, or procedural concerns to the Deputy Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, or Returning Officer as appropriate.
Monitor public areas of the voting location to help maintain a welcoming, safe, respectful, and accessible environment for all electors.
Assist election staff with the setup, opening, operation, and closing of the voting location as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality, political neutrality, and compliance with the Municipal Elections Act, election procedures, and all directions provided by the Returning Officer or designate. Election personnel are appointed by oath and are required to uphold the integrity of the election process.
Perform other election-related duties as assigned by the Returning Officer or designate.
