About The Position

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is hiring for an ELECT Program Coordinator to support the delivery of culturally grounded education and training for early learning educators within Alberta. Reporting to the ELECT Program Manager, this role contributes to the success of the Early Learning Education Childcare Training (ELECT) program, an initiative designed to strengthen Métis cultural capacity of early childhood educators, families, and caregivers through connection to Métis language, culture, and identity. Working collaboratively with the ELECT Program Manager, program staff, and community partners, the ELECT Program Coordinator will ensure smooth program operations, participant engagement, and meaningful cultural experiences for program participants. This position plays a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of Métis families and children through relationship-building, coordination, and community-based learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of Métis family and community structures, and early learning philosophies grounded in Métis culture.
  • Comfortable facilitating and supporting group learning in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Culturally grounded, compassionate approach to working with Métis children, families, and educators.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, including families, educators, and community partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing ideas, supporting co-workers, and sharing responsibility for program delivery.
  • Proficient in using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Strong political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge and respect for Métis identity, history, language, and culture, with a commitment to supporting Métis cultural revitalization, language preservation, and family wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people.
  • Post-secondary education in Early Learning and Child Care (ECE Level 3 preferred), Education, Indigenous Studies, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Ability to work regular hours of Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, as well as Wednesday evenings from 6:50pm-8:00pm; days would be flexed to accommodate for this hour.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, with notice.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 6 weekends a year for programming.
  • Travel within Alberta is required.
  • Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.

Nice To Haves

  • An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in early learning, family support, or community program coordination is an asset.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating training or professional learning for educators or caregivers is an asset.
  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the ELECT Program, including workshops, virtual learning, and community-based events.
  • Coordinate registration, scheduling, logistics, and communications for program activities, including professional learning sessions for early childhood educators.
  • Develop and distribute culturally relevant learning materials and resources that strengthen family and educator capacity.
  • Maintain respectful and culturally safe communication with program participants, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and community partners.
  • Coordinate travel, supplies, honorariums, and participant materials for in-person and online events.
  • Provide technical support for virtual learning sessions (e.g., Zoom setup, online facilitation).
  • Perform data collection, entry, and reporting to support evaluation and program improvement.
  • Support the development of social media and digital engagement spaces for the Métis early learning community, including alumni and participant groups.
  • Deliver communications, presentation materials, and outreach to educators, families, and community partners.
  • Work collaboratively with the ELECT Program team to ensure efficient, high-quality, and culturally safe program delivery.
  • Represent the Otipemisiwak Métis Government at community events and gatherings to promote early learning and family wellbeing.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
