About The Position

The EKG Technician II administers electrocardiograms for emergency and routine inpatient and outpatient care, applies Holter monitors, and performs related office and clerical duties. The position also supports cardiac testing, prepares and processes reports, schedules testing, maintains equipment, and transports patients. The technician may serve as a preceptor for new staff and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Vocational or technical training.
• A minimum of six months of job-related experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrocardiograms daily for emergency and routine inpatient and outpatient care.
• Apply Holter monitors and explain their use to patients.
• Edit EKG reports and transcribe Holter and echocardiogram reports.
• Assist registered nurses with stress and nuclear testing.
• Act as a preceptor when training new staff members.
• Schedule cardiology testing for inpatients and outpatients.
• Enter medical data into the computer for billing purposes.
• Generate and prepare unedited EKG reports daily for cardiologist interpretation.
• Maintain and clean equipment and prepare it for the next shift.
• Transport patients to and from rooms for testing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
