The Opportunity We are seeking an Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) Technician to support the safe and reliable operation of facilities by completing routine maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repair activities on electrical, instrumentation, and basic control systems under guidance from senior technicians or supervisors. This role is ideal for an early-career technician who is building hands-on experience with field instrumentation, electrical equipment, and industrial controls in a regulated and safety-critical environment.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson certification or in-progress apprenticeship in one of the following (or equivalent combination of training/experience): Instrumentation Technician or Electrician (Industrial/Construction) with relevant instrumentation exposure
  • 0–3 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience (pipeline, midstream, oil & gas, utilities, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of: Basic instrumentation (transmitters, switches, control valves, loop checks), Electrical fundamentals (safe isolation, basic motor controls, wiring/termination practices), Industrial safety practices (LOTO, hazardous area awareness, permits)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to sites as required.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and pass required pre-employment checks.
  • Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada and the US)
  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training
  • Be part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to PLC/DCS environments (Allen-Bradley/Siemens/Emerson/ABB/Honeywell or similar).
  • Experience with calibration tools and practices (e.g., HART communicators, calibrators).
  • Understanding of hazardous locations and applicable electrical/instrumentation standards (e.g., CEC/NEC, CSA/UL) — where applicable.
  • Previous CMMS experience (SAP/Maximo) and strong documentation habits.
  • Safety training such as H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space, Fall Protection, or equivalent (role/site dependent).

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work in compliance with South Bow policies, safe work practices, permit-to-work requirements, and applicable codes/standards.
  • Participate in hazard assessments (e.g., FLHA/JSA), toolbox talks, and incident/near-miss reporting.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks on instrumentation, electrical components, and related equipment, such as: Pressure/temperature/level/flow devices and transmitters, Control valves (positioners, I/Ps), actuators, and basic loop checks, Motor control components, junction boxes, terminations, and heat tracing.
  • Conduct field rounds and inspections; document results and escalate abnormal conditions.
  • Support troubleshooting of basic equipment faults using test equipment and established procedures.
  • Replace and repair instrumentation and electrical components (e.g., sensors, switches, wiring, fuses, relays) under supervision.
  • Assist with calibration checks and loop verification activities, following documented methods and quality requirements.
  • Assist with basic control system support activities (e.g., verifying I/O, confirming signals, supporting functional tests).
  • Support senior technicians with PLC/DCS-related tasks by gathering field data, verifying wiring/termination, and completing checks as directed.
  • Create, update, and close work orders in the maintenance management system (e.g., SAP/Maximo) with accurate notes, time entries, and parts usage.
  • Support documentation updates, such as redlines/as-builts, device records, and calibration/maintenance logs.
  • Follow material management practices (parts kitting, inventory requests, return-to-stock).
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and contractors to support safe equipment isolation, job execution, and return-to-service.
  • Support turnaround/shutdown activities and contractor oversight as assigned (e.g., receiving, orientation, field verification).
