About The Position

TC Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical, Instrumentation, & Controls Technician to join their USGO Heartland, Rock River Valley Area team in Illinois. This role will support the company's growing measurement and regulation facilities. The ideal candidate will be proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas measurement equipment, compressor station control systems, and other related facilities. This is a self-starter position requiring minimal supervision, with an emphasis on problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a related industry
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Must be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
  • All applicants must have legal authorization to work in the country where the position is based, without restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
  • Experience with PLC’s, pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and Regulators
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor station, meter station, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system.
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers).
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, ensuring compliance with codes.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment.
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples.
  • Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas in the event of pipeline right of way maintenance or an emergency repair to maintain delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Locate pipelines per One Call and perform valve maintenance.
  • Perform and witness hydrostatic tests that assure material integrity for operation and installation of facilities.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP.
  • Other tasks as required.
