About The Position

Black Box is hiring an EHS Specialist to support data center construction at two client sites in the same vicinity in Dekalb, Illinois. The role focuses on implementing safety practices and programs, identifying and mitigating hazards, maintaining safety records, and supporting accident and injury investigations. The position is hourly, with compensation based on experience and skill level, and is offered as a contract with the possibility of extension or hire. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; after-hours or weekend work may be required if project demands.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience in the construction industry in a similar role.
Experience developing and implementing safety programs, conducting hazard mitigation activities, and supporting large-scale construction projects.
A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field, or a BCSP certification such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST.
Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

Experience with large structured cabling projects and/or data center construction projects.
OSHA Outreach Trainer Certification for OSHA 10/30 Hour.

Responsibilities

Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA regulations and Black Box’s Safety Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
Develop, implement, and deliver safety and orientation training programs.
Inspect facilities to identify existing or potential hazards, recommend corrective measures, and verify that measures are implemented.
Maintain safety documentation, including audits, inspections, Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
Participate in accident and injury investigations and support preparation of materials for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance cases.
Perform other duties as necessary.
