About The Position

The Fire Department, City of New York (“FDNY”) seeks a full-time Agency Attorney Level III in the Equal Employment Opportunity (“EEO”) Office. Reporting directly to the Assistant Commissioner of EEO and the Director, the successful candidate will: With minimal oversight and exercising significant independent judgment, conduct investigations of complex EEO violations; conduct interviews of complainants, respondents, and witnesses; gather relevant documents and prepare written summaries of investigations and closing memos to the Assistant Commissioner for EEO, including referrals to the appropriate bureaus for action; research legal issues relating to EEO law; conduct EEO compliance inspections; when needed, conduct thorough intake interviews and draft detailed and timely intake reports; conduct EEO training for FDNY employees, EEO counselors, and FDNY units as needed; and assist in the development of EEO statistics and reports.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086)
  • Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
  • Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
