About The Position

The Electroencephalographic (EEG) Tech II (Registered) has passed examination by ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) and proven competence to obtain credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.). The EEG Technologist II has a minimum three years' experience in preforming electroencephalography. The EEG Technologist II provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedures. Strong well developed communication skills are essential for this position. The EEG Technologist II performs procedures appropriate to their competence and credentials held under general technical supervision. Requirements

  • 3 years EEG Tech experience
  • REET registration
  • Associates degree (or equivalent EEG Tech work experience)
  • Passed examination by ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET)
  • Proven competence to obtain credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.)
  • Minimum three years' experience in performing electroencephalography
  • Strong well developed communication skills are essential

Responsibilities

  • Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System
  • Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results
  • Maintains the patient’s safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed
  • Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use
  • Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function
  • Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure
  • Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections
  • Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations
  • Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit
  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied
  • Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files
  • Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
