About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Quality, Training and Development, this position provides leadership in the planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for staff, including orientation, compulsory educational programs, clinical development for Care staff and general and continuing education for all staff both Care and non-Care.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an approved nursing program
  • Currently licensed with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) or the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
  • Five years of teaching experience related to educating interdisciplinary team members
  • Flexible strategies and application of adult-learning principles
  • Able to provide meaningful and constructive feedback
  • Demonstrated proficiency in presentation and oral & written communication skills
  • Flexible to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Will be required to travel frequently between Wing Kei facilities

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate in Chinese would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing all education provided in Wing Kei. This includes both clinical education for Care team and general education for all Wing Kei employees.
  • In partnership with the learner(s) and manager(s), develops educational plans based on learning needs assessment and the work cycle of the area and individual.
  • Ensures that education plan and topics, day and time, are communicated to and agreed by managers.
  • Ensures that education topics are posted and communicated to staff. This includes posters, announcements on PCC home page, and verbal reminders.
  • Responsible for room booking and record keeping for all education and in-services.
  • In collaboration with managers and human resources, coordinates orientation both general and departmental for new hires.
  • Arranges facility orientation for practicum or nursing students; informs managers on plans for student practicum and days that support and specific needs are required; arranges introduction of managers to students and plans of learning objective of the students for managers to choose mentors for the students.
  • Monitors and promotes changes in health care delivery including technology, service delivery and health care practice.
  • Applies knowledge of pertinent education and healthcare research to development, delivery and evaluation of educational plans and programs.
  • Adjusts learning plans as required to provide for unexpected, spontaneous learning.
  • Identifies objectives and measurable outcomes of learning.
  • Ensures educational program is in alignment with appropriate legislation, regional policies and professional standards.
  • Promotes positive learning environments.
  • Collaborates with managers and other multidisciplinary team members to evaluate outcomes of educational programs.
  • Encourages and promotes reflection by the learners on clinical experiences and their impact on practice.
