About The Position

The Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) Program Coordinator for the Undergraduate Certificate in Community-Engaged Learning supports the development, implementation, and administration of the Undergraduate Certificate in Community-Engaged Learning. Working collaboratively across MSU’s curricular and co-curricular community engagement ecosystem, the coordinator advances CCEL’s mission to prepare students for lifelong civic and social responsibility. This position provides program management, student advising, communications, data tracking, and partnership support to ensure a high-quality experience for students pursuing the certificate and for faculty and community partners contributing to it.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one to three years of post-bachelor’s degree work, such as Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social/behavioral science, communications, or related field
  • one to three years of related and progressively responsible experience or expansive work in program administration, student support, or academic coordination; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience advising or supporting college students.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with student information systems, data tracking, and learning management or advising platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a range of interest-holders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary coordinator of the CEL certificate, ensuring smooth processes from student interest through completion.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems for student progress, course equivalencies, engagement hours, seminar completion, and capstone submissions.
  • Collect, verify, and report completion data to university systems and partners, including the Registrar.
  • Support the work of a certificate steering committee and serve as a liaison among faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Serves as a connector across CCEL programs, sharing insights from student advising and program assessment to inform continuous improvement and cross-program learning.
  • Contributes to CCEL-wide initiatives and programs by providing administrative, logistical, or coordination support during peak periods, special projects, or pilot efforts aligned with the Center’s strategic priorities.
  • Advise students pursuing the certificate, supporting onboarding, goal-setting, progress monitoring, and portfolio development.
  • Track student participation and pathways; conduct individualized follow-ups with prospective and current students.
  • Serve as reviewer for student artifacts and assignments in alignment with certificate rubrics and program standards.
  • Adhere to university policies related to grading, data privacy, student conduct, and FERPA.
  • Support the design, delivery, and logistics of required CEL seminars; assist with syllabus development and instructional materials.
  • Coordinate course audits and maintain an updated inventory of curricular and co-curricular experiences meeting certificate requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, community partners, and academic units interested in integrating CEL experiences meeting certificate criteria.
  • Develop and manage marketing and communication strategies for the certificate.
  • Create print and digital content for student recruitment, advising materials, website updates, newsletters, and social media.
  • Conduct presentations, tabling, and intentional outreach across colleges, student groups, and campus partners.
  • Promote certificate visibility and represent CCEL in meetings, events, and relevant community gatherings.
  • Collect and analyze student, course, and program data to inform enhancements.
  • Gather student, partner, faculty, and staff feedback to recommend program improvements.
  • Prepare periodic assessment summaries and internal reports.
  • Supports center-wide outreach, communications, and data collection efforts as needed, including assisting with shared reporting, student tracking, and visibility of CCEL programs.
  • Collaborates with CCEL program teams to align certificate pathways with other CCEL offerings, ensuring complementary student experiences across curricular and co-curricular community-engaged learning programs.
  • Provide first-level supervision for student employees supporting outreach and program operations (hiring, training, goal-setting, feedback).
  • Participate in CCEL meetings, professional development, and divisional initiatives.
  • Provide occasional cross-unit administrative support as needed.
