About The Position

As a member of a multidisciplinary clinical team, the Educational Diagnostician II conducts developmental evaluations of 0- to 3-year-old children to determine eligibility for the Infant-Toddler Program and to assess child and family needs for early intervention supports and services. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The Division of Child and Family Well-Being (DCFW) brings together complementary NC Department of Health and Human services to support North Carolina’s children growing up safe, healthy, and thriving in nurturing and resilient families and communities.

Requirements

Knowledge of early childhood development and conditions that lead to developmental delays/disabilities.
Knowledge of and skills in administering developmental evaluation measures for use with young children who may have delays or disabilities.
Understanding of functional assessment as it relates to the N.C. Infant-Toddler Program.
Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary in order to establish rapport with children and families as well as co-workers.
Excellent communication skills are also needed to effectively interpret assessment results and prepare written reports.
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
Work requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
Work requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
Work requires visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
