About The Position

Provide instructional intervention strategies for struggling learners, assess students’ educational achievement, and provide information in reports and data summaries to enable teams to determine how to meet diverse student needs. This role involves conducting individual student assessments, interpreting achievement profiles, and employing knowledge of special education regulations and disability eligibility criteria. The diagnostician will construct and write reports with concise recommendations, meet regulatory timelines, and present reports orally to individuals internal and external to Hanover County Public Schools. Collaboration with team members for data-based decision making, supporting documentation of meeting outcomes, and assisting with developing and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to write with good grammatical structure and to interpret achievement profiles based on sound educational practices
  • Ability to construct and write a report with concise recommendations that are specific to the individualized needs of each student
  • Ability to meet timelines in a regulatory environment
  • Ability to orally represent reports to individuals internal and external to Hanover County Public Schools
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Virginia Teacher license with endorsement in Special Education
  • Previous educational testing experience, including the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement
  • Knowledge of special education regulations/processes, and disability eligibility criteria

  • Experience at the elementary level
  • Elementary testing experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual student assessment using the most recent editions of the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, and/or Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement
  • Interpret achievement profiles based on sound educational practices
  • Employ knowledge of special education regulations/processes, and disability eligibility criteria
  • Construct and write reports with concise recommendations that are specific to the individualized needs of each student
  • Meet timelines in a regulatory environment
  • Orally present reports to individuals internal and external to Hanover County Public Schools
  • Effectively collaborate with team members to facilitate data-based decision making
  • Support the documentation of meeting outcomes, including Special Education eligibility meetings
  • Assist with developing evidence-based intervention strategies and support their implementation through collaboration with instructional staff
  • Perform related work as required
