About The Position

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking professionals who are deeply committed to students and the communities they serve. This role is crucial for facilitating communication between hearing students and students who are deaf and hard of hearing, parents, and other stakeholders. The Educational Interpreter will provide comprehensive interpreting services in various academic and non-academic settings, supporting general education subjects and students with special needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of 24 units of college or university coursework related to the assignment, or equivalent combination of training, experience, and/or education.
  • Three years of paid experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and use manual communication.
  • Possession of one of the following certifications: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) [certificate of Interpretation (CI) or certificate of Transliteration (CT), or National Interpreter certification (NIC)], or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 4.0; or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level 4.0.
  • Related education and experience must be clearly represented in the work history and education section of the application.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communication between hearing students and students who are deaf and hard of hearing, parents, and others.
  • Provide comprehensive manual and/or oral interpreting services in academic or non-academic/technical classes or situations.
  • Offer support in general academic subjects such as English, history, and basic mathematics.
  • Provide additional support for students having special needs.
