About The Position

The NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC), located in the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences (SANS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), is seeking to fill a twelve-month, full-time, exempt position. The LMRCSC is a consortium of seven institutions with over 30 scientists dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and conducting research in NOAA-related sciences. SANS comprises three departments: Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences, and Human Ecology, offering a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Requirements

  • Ed.D. or a Ph.D. degree in Education from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience in higher education workforce development to successfully graduate students in agency mission fields.
  • Experience with assessments to demonstrate that students attain the requisite working skills and competencies for the workforce.
  • Strong record of scholarly activity.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Skilled in database management/development.
  • Skilled in managing and assessing multi-institutional educational programs.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate an interdisciplinary education program.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to accept employment in the United States without Employer Immigration sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure students have Individualized Student Development Plans reviewed annually or semi-annually.
  • Ensure students attain general NOAA-mission skills and competencies.
  • Facilitate student presentations at professional meetings.
  • Increase student awareness and knowledge about the NOAA mission, internship opportunities, scientific integrity, and acknowledging NOAA support.
  • Facilitate student participation in NOAA experiential research and training, including professional development to enhance competitiveness for future NOAA workforce positions.
  • Ensure students have a clear understanding of the funding agency and how their training and research align with the NOAA mission and vision.
  • Coordinate with the Data and Information Manager to monitor, guide, and provide timely interventions aligned with Center SMART objectives.
  • Work with the Data and Information Manager to produce data and award-required reporting for center-wide education and training, including student core competencies, achievements, best practices, and internal assessments.
  • Lead center outcomes to support the LMRCSC program purpose, priorities, and expected outcomes.
  • Work with the Distinguished Research Scientist to identify, develop, and coordinate professional development experiences for Center students.
  • Collaborate with an external evaluator to verify data for performance measurement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, such as participation in LMRCSC Executive Committee meetings.
