About The Position

The Duxbury Public Schools is seeking a dedicated support staff for students enrolling at Bridgewater State University as a part of the EXCEL Program starting in the fall of 2026. There are three (3) part-time positions, The final schedule is to be determined. The EXCEL Program at Bridgewater State University (BSU) is a fully-inclusive postsecondary program for young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Students in the EXCEL program share the same experiences as BSU undergraduate students in the areas of academics, socialization, professional development, self-advocacy and independent living. The EXCEL Program offers three options for participation. With support in place, BSU EXCEL students enroll in courses, take part in internships, socialize with peers and participate in campus clubs and activities. An Education Support position provides individualized support to students with disabilities in the BSU EXCEL program. Working 1:1 with EXCEL program students, the person in this role will foster growth toward independence, help develop daily living skills, promote students’ self-determination, and track progress using program evaluation tools. EXCEL Education Coaches receive training and ongoing support from program staff.

Requirements

  • College Degree in related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of students
  • Energetic, self-starter who can complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Related field experience working with students with disabilities
  • Proficient using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Google suite, etc…

Responsibilities

  • Attend and support EXCEL students in classes
  • Attend and support EXCEL students in internships
  • Coordinate and collaborate with student and program staff at weekly check-in meetings
  • Facilitate communication with professors
  • Assist the students in utilizing campus resources, completing assigned work and tasks
  • Provide ongoing academic support, i.e. study skills, scheduling, organization and planning during academic year
  • Complete program data collection forms
  • Participate in program activities and events
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with supervisor
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Special Education POST Teacher
