About The Position

The Education Coordinator (EC) will provide academic assessment and GED instruction to youth, ages 16-24, who have dropped out of school. The Education Coordinator also assists with preparation for furthering education and skill development through vocational training, college, or other post-secondary opportunities. Youth who prefer to earn their High School Diploma online will complete academic assessments and enroll with the programs’ online school, Grad Solutions. Individualized educational tutoring will be provided and coordinated with volunteer tutors when necessary, to increase positive academic outcomes for all students. Provides case management and communicates directly and regularly with other team members, and outside agencies and services, regarding participant needs and progress in order to ensure coordinated services that best meet the participant’s needs. Participates in regular staff meetings, JFCS agency meetings as required, and community and client-related meetings as a representative of JFCS/JDP when appropriate. Participates in mandatory and ongoing program training to increase knowledge of best practices and remain compliant with funding and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in a Special Education academic setting or therapeutic program with young adults experiencing behavioral, emotional, and learning challenges highly desired.
  • Acceptance of individual differences in people.
  • Awareness of one’s capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to work independently on specific assignments.
  • Ability to be flexible as specific tasks will change with the evolution of the program.
  • Must have knowledge of Individualized Education Plan.
  • Experience working with DCS youth a plus.
  • Bi-lingual, bi-cultural a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance.
  • Must have dependable transportation. The vehicle must have appropriate passenger restraint systems and be properly maintained.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card without restriction(s).
  • Experience with Smart Board Technology highly desired.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including prolonged sitting and in certain positions driving, lifting 20lbs, walking, standing and executing dexterity with a keyboard or smart pad.
