About The Position

The Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating educational and training programs for clinical staff and patients while ensuring compliance with applicable Department of Health, Department of Corrections, ACA, NCCHC (if applicable), state licensing regulations, and organizational policies. This position supports clinical excellence by coordinating orientation, competency assessments, continuing education, and staff development initiatives. The Education Coordinator also serves as a clinical resource and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles, clinical education, and adult learning concepts.
  • Knowledge of correctional healthcare standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present educational material effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in correctional healthcare, long-term care, critical care, or acute care preferred.
  • Experience coordinating education, training, or staff development programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff and other healthcare personnel.
  • Coordinate new employee orientation, annual competencies, mandatory education, and continuing education programs.
  • Ensure staff education complies with organizational policies, correctional healthcare standards, regulatory agencies, and licensing requirements.
  • Monitor clinical practices to ensure nursing care is delivered safely and within the appropriate scope of practice.
  • Coordinate in-service education, competency validation, skills assessments, and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff regarding evidence-based practice, policy updates, and professional standards.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy vendors to support medication education and maintain compliance with medication management practices.
  • Develop and provide patient education materials related to medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, and specialty medical devices.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and collaborate with social services, correctional staff, parole representatives, and community agencies to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to educational programs, competencies, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure required educational materials and clinical supplies are available to support staff training.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and recommend educational strategies to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nursing staff, behavioral health professionals, and other healthcare team members.
  • Follow infection control practices and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
