About The Position

This is a Special Education Class 3A Education Assistant Resource position at the School of Engineering and Arts. The role involves seven hours per day, with 6.5 hours of paid work time and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The hourly rate is $24.03, based on the current EA contract salary schedule, plus benefits. The position requires assisting in the supervision and instruction of students with disabilities, providing clerical and organizational support to special education teachers, working with individuals and small groups, and supporting students in crisis. The role may involve lifting, carrying, and physically managing students as necessary, along with other duties assigned by the teacher or principal.

Requirements

• At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in MN), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
• Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities and behavior problems preferred.
• Word processing, filing and computer familiarity.
• Patient, calm and understanding manner when working with students.
• Sensitivity to confidentiality.
• Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
• Able to assist students with classroom assignments.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and has the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
• Provides clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
• Works with individuals and/or small groups when activities and assignments are presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
• Provides support for students in crisis.
• Willingness to lift, carry and physically manage as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.
