About The Position

Sandburg Middle School is seeking an Education Assistant for a Special Education Resource position. This is a Class 3A position that involves assisting in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities. The role requires supporting students in crisis, providing clerical and organizational support to special education teachers, and working with individuals and small groups. The position is seven hours per day, with 6.5 hours of paid work time and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The hourly rate is $24.03, based on the current EA contract salary schedule, plus benefits.

Requirements

At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in MN), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
Word processing, filing and computer familiarity.
Patient, calm and understanding manner when working with students.
Sensitivity to confidentiality.
Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
Able to assist students with classroom assignments.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills and has the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities and behavior problems preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
Provides clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
Works with individuals and/or small groups when activities and assignments are presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
Provides support for students in crisis.
Willingness to lift, carry and physically manage as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.
