Community Impact’s Editorial Internship is a 10–12-week, part-time program for people interested in beginning a community journalism career. Interns work with experienced editors and industry veterans, build storytelling skills, and take on data-heavy assignments that help inform readers about local communities. The program provides a well-rounded newsroom experience, including writing web stories, shadowing reporters at local government meetings, contributing stories to the print product, and writing for the paper’s Impacts and To-do List sections. Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree, or have graduated within six months of the internship start date. Experience with a collegiate student publication or media outlet is required. Spring interns are paid $15 per hour. The standard work week is Monday through Friday, with some evening shifts potentially required to cover council meetings.
