About The Position

Syms Strategic Group is seeking an experienced Edifecs Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Analyst Transaction Specialist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is a full-time, fully U.S.-based remote W-2 position requiring U.S. citizenship and possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a Public Trust (MBI). Candidates residing in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. The salary range is $85,389–$116,975. The specialist owns functional EDI workflows, partner requirements, and data validation rules to ensure accurate transaction processing and support business operations. The role interprets and troubleshoots healthcare transaction sets, validates compliance and partner-specific rules, documents mapping and logical requirements, and works with business stakeholders and technical teams to resolve issues. It also supports audit and compliance reviews, maintains data quality guardrails, and helps identify issues arising from middleware or APIs. The role works with integration specialists on AS2, SFTP, and HTTPS flows; validates data exchanged with non-X.12 partners; queries SQL transaction details; validates payloads, timestamps, statuses, and error flags; and reconciles raw EDI against stored data. The position requires strong experience with Edifecs products, EDI/HIPAA, healthcare payer/provider workflows, AWS environments, transaction error analysis, and stakeholder communication. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and may undergo background checks including criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.

  • Experience working with SpecBuilder maps and implementation guides.
  • Ability to identify issues sourced from Edifecs routes, profiles, or rulesets.
  • Ability to interpret Edifecs logs and error codes at the functional layer, rather than the platform-admin level.

  • Ability to understand inbound and outbound workflow architecture.
  • Ability to communicate technical architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience gathering and translating business reporting requirements into technical data models.
  • Comfort driving ambiguous architecture decisions to resolution with limited direction.

  • Strong documentation habits.
