About The Position

In alignment with Microsoft values, the Edge Datacenter Operations Specialist will cultivate an inclusive work environment. Edge Site Operations (ESO) is responsible for deploying and maintaining collocated facilities globally that provide network connectivity for hyperscale datacenters and enable low latency, reliable connectivity for Microsoft’s Cloud Services. This role provides IT and logistics support for a portfolio of edge sites within a metro or region, embracing a "Four Walls" ownership philosophy. The specialist will collaborate with partnering teams supporting deployments and daily operations, driving world-class support services and assisting other regions as needed. This opportunity involves transforming Edge Site Operations, developing new processes and procedures, and driving field program development. The role allows for remote work when not critical to be physically present at the datacenter. Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) powers cloud services, and this role is key in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies. Requirements

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 2+ years’ experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Technical College Degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field AND 5+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR High School Qualification or equivalent AND 7+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR equivalent experience.
  • Applicable certifications: APICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications, PMP, ITIL, CDCP.
  • 2+ Years’ experience in a 24x7x365 production environment or related experience.
  • Knowledge of physical Enterprise-class IT infrastructures.
  • Problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects autonomously.
  • Customer service, interpersonal awareness, and communication skills (written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Work across partner teams supporting deployment, break fix, inventory and asset management, security, design and build, and compliance to ensure seamless site operation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with leased facility landlord(s), IT service providers, and partner support teams.
  • Assume accountability for executing all physical infrastructure resources required to provide capacity.
  • Provide quality control for datacenter-wide IT maintenance support activities across multiple service lines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for response to major incidents at datacenter(s) and participate in proactive and timely resolution of such major incidents impacting MS Cloud services.
  • Oversee successful SLA adherence in deployment, break fix, and inventory and asset management for datacenters to ensure all local systems meet requirements supplied by Microsoft internal security and compliance teams.
  • Contribute to regional and global improvement programs as required.
