About The Position

The ED Tech provides assigned patient care according to standards of care, shift routines, and organizational policies and procedures. The role supports emergency department operations by responding to call lights, documenting care, maintaining a clean environment and supplies, processing orders, communicating information, directing visitors, maintaining patient records, and processing patient charges. Clinical duties include performing EKGs, starting IVs, performing venipunctures and blood glucose monitoring, assisting with emergency procedures, applying splints, performing CPR, and transporting non-monitored patients to inpatient units. The position also participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.

Requirements

Completion of a CNA program; or graduation from an eligible medical assistant program; or graduation from an Emergency Medical Technician program; or graduation from a Paramedic program.
Applicable certification or licensure: state nursing assistant certification; an accepted medical assistant certification; state EMT-B or EMT-A license; or state Paramedic license.
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

Provide assigned patient care according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
Answer call lights in a timely and appropriate manner and respond appropriately to telephone calls.
Document care provided according to standards.
Maintain a clean work and patient environment.
Stock supplies and dispose of expired or damaged supplies.
Process orders accurately and in a timely manner; relay information or messages to patients and staff.
Direct visitors to patient rooms.
Maintain medical records for current patients.
Process patient charges and order supplies as needed.
Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities.
Perform 12-lead EKGs as directed.
Start IVs and perform venipunctures as directed.
Assist ED physicians with intubation by gathering required equipment.
Perform CPR and place the Lucas device on patients during resuscitations.
Apply splints.
Assist with chest tube insertions by gathering supplies and equipment.
Perform blood glucose monitoring as directed.
Transport non-monitored patients to inpatient units.
