About The Position

We are seeking an experienced RN for our 16-bed Observation Unit. This unit is designed for patients requiring observation and holds. The role involves a 36-hour work week with rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) and requires working every other weekend (EOW). The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in one location and 2 years of experience as a Traveler. The position requires general ED nursing skills, including assessment, documentation, IV insertion, phlebotomy, EKG, cardiac monitoring, point-of-care testing, splinting, critical thinking, and patient education. The clinician-to-patient ratio is 4:1 or 5:1, depending on unit needs. The patient population is adult, with a census typically ranging from 10-16 patients. The EMR system used is Epic, with Asap and Clin doc. Floating to other units may be required.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working in one location.
  • 2 years of experience working as a Traveler.
  • General ED nursing skills including assessment, documentation, IV, phlebotomy, EKG, Cardiac Monitoring, point of care testing, splinting, critical thinking and patient education.
  • Ability to read telemetry strips.
  • Active MA RN License.
  • AHA ACLS certification.
  • AHA PALS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general ED nursing care including assessment, documentation, IV insertion, phlebotomy, EKG, cardiac monitoring, point-of-care testing, and splinting.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills for patient care.
  • Educate patients.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) and every other weekend.
