About The Position

This is a 32-hour per week position for an Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse on the Epstein 5 unit. The unit has 30 beds and serves adults aged 18-65 with a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis patients. The unit also manages medically acute patients requiring services such as IVs, CPAPs, wound care, and diabetic care. The role involves a rotating shift schedule for Day Rotate positions (7a-7p, 11a-11p, & 7p-7a) and requires working every other weekend (EOW). Floating to other units may be required. The charting system used is EPIC.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric experience.
• Proficient in using automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell).
• Proficient in the use of psychotropic medications and understanding their side effects.
• Able to assume the role of charge nurse.
• Able to complete admissions and discharges.
• Competent in the use of IV pumps.
• Competent in the care of diabetic patients.
• Active Massachusetts RN License.
• AHA BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Treat patients with diverse types of mental health issues (anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, dual diagnosis patients).
• Manage medically acute patients including IVs, CPAPs, Wound Care, and diabetic care.
• Complete admissions and discharges.
• Assume the role of charge nurse.
• Administer medications using an automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell).
• Provide care for patients requiring IV pumps and diabetic care.
• Float to other units as needed.
