About The Position

This is a 32-hour per week position for an Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse on the Epstein 4 unit. The unit is a 30-bed adult unit serving patients aged 18-65 with a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis patients. The unit also treats medically acute patients requiring services such as IVs, CPAPs, wound care, and diabetic care. The clinician to patient ratio is 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients. Floating to other units may be required. The position involves rotating shifts (Day Rotate, Eves, Nights) and requires working every other weekend (EOW).

Requirements

• 2 years minimum of inpatient adult psych experience.
• Proficient in using automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell).
• Proficient in the use of psychotropic medications and side effects.
• Able to assume the role of charge nurse.
• Able to complete admissions and discharges.
• Competent in the use of IV pumps and care of diabetic patients.
• Active Massachusetts RN License.
• AHA BLS certification.
• Knowledge of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of rights of inpatient requirements related to restraint and seclusion, legal statuses.
• Knowledge of laws pertaining to guardianship, healthcare proxy (invoked vs confirmed) and court ordered Medication.

Responsibilities

• Complete admissions and discharges.

• Provide care for diabetic patients.
• Perform IV therapy.
• Float to other units as needed.
